My Experience

The first challenge we faced when we collected our 8-week-old puppy, Raffles, was how to get him home safely and with minimal stress.

I was very conscious that our tiny, fluffy bundle had never been away from his Mom or his brothers and sisters and had only met us once when we initially came to view the puppies and choose one. In fact, little Raffles had never even been outside the pen containing his family except for the vet’s visit for his health check and vaccinations!

When we arrived to collect our new puppy, he was the only one left! All his brothers and sisters had already gone to their new forever homes, leaving our little guy alone with his Mom.

I had intended to transport our puppy home by are, riding in the crate we’d bought for him. However, when we took him outside, he was quite bewildered a clung to me, trying to bury his head in my arms. So, we ended up driving home with our puppy sitting on my lap.

I decided to sit in the backseat, as if we’d had an accident, the passenger’s airbag would have injured or even killed the puppy. For safety, I fixed his harness to my seatbelt using the attachment provided.

The journey proved uneventful, and over the next few days, Raffles quickly became accustomed to taking car rides with us. Now, our little furry friend dashes out to the car as soon as I put his collar and harness on, although now he always rides in his crate!
