My Experience

If you’re torn between bringing home a boy or a girl puppy, you might be wondering if there’s really much difference between the two sexes. So, I thought I’d share my personal experience of both sexes with you to help you make the right decision.

Size

I’ve owned dogs of various breeds and of both sexes, and I can confirm that my boy dogs have all turned out to grow somewhat larger than the female ones.

I had all my dogs desexed, and I don’t think that made any difference to the size of the “finished article.”

So, if you want a slightly smaller version of your chosen breed, I would always choose a female puppy.

Toilet Training

Unless I’ve been very unlucky, I can state that my female dogs were easier to potty train than the males!

Now, that could be because my ladies were less stubborn breeds than the boys. However, I suspect the boys’ lack of control in the pee department is closely related to their habit of scent marking.

My male puppy has an incredibly frustrating habit of peeing in the house, even though he knows that the place to go is in the back garden, and that’s where he always does his main business.

For example, since the arrival of the puppy, my two cats have taken up residence in the spare bedroom, sleeping on the bed, where they are well out of reach of the curious canine. One time, I put the puppy on the bed to keep him out of the way while I was vacuuming.

I turned around to lift him down again, only to discover that the little devil had peed on the bed! I can only assume that peeing was designed to scent mark the cats’ area with the puppy’s own smell.

If you have a nice lawn in your garden that you want to preserve, it’s worth noting that female dog pee tends to scorch the grass much more than male pee.

Behavior

When it comes to the behavior of male and female dogs, in my experience, males are undoubtedly feistier and more inclined to answer back than females!

Although both sexes are just as trainable, the boys are more easily distracted and struggle to focus. Females tend to be calmer and find concentration easier. Now, I’m not sexist; just saying!

That being said, the boys did settle down a lot once they had been desexed.

What Is The Rarest Color Of Goldendoodles?

Your color preference will also influence the price of your puppy. 

Goldendoodles come in a variety of coat colors, including black, brown, caramel, blonde, white, golden, and cream in color. However, especially coveted puppies come in rare colors, including merle and red.

If you want a rare Goldendoodle color, you can expect to pay considerably more than you would for a more “common” color.

Coat Type

You can expect to pay more for a Goldendoodle puppy that has a very curly coat. That’s because curly-coated Goldendoodles typically shed much less than those with wavy or straight coats. So, a curly-coated Doodle is a better choice for those with pet allergies, as these pups are considered to be one of the very few hypoallergenic dog breeds

Size Matters!

When it comes to breed sizes, smaller-sized Goldendoodles are usually more expensive than larger ones because the demand for small dogs is greater. 

Should I Get An F1 Or F1B Goldendoodle? 

F1B Goldendoodles are generally more expensive than F1 generation dogs. Again, that’s largely due to the higher demand for F1B puppies as a desirable dog breed.

F1 and F1B Goldendoodles are both crossbreeds, having both Poodle and Golden retriever parents. Size and temperament are essentially the same, but there are a couple of notable differences between the two that influence the price, including:

• F1B Goldendoodles have more Poodle DNA. Therefore, these dogs tend to shed less.
• F1B puppies are considered to be more intelligent and trainable than F1 types. That’s because F1B dogs have more Poodle DNA, and Poodles are considered to be more intelligent than Golden retrievers.
• The F1B Goldendoodle often has the super-cute Teddy Bear looks that people love!
